Day 9. December 22, 2021
Read: 1 Peter 1:15-22
O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining, it is the night of our dear Savior's birth.
Hearing this song brings Christmas memories into our hearts. Aside from the nostalgic feeling that it gives, the song also emphasized how Holy is the night that Christ Jesus was born. And so, we ask ourselves, what does Holy mean? How do we celebrate a Holy night?
Holy means separated from sin and therefore consecrated to God. In our reading, Peter understood what this means as he encouraged disciples to be Holy in all they do just as Christ did for they were redeemed by His precious blood. What was said then, is still true to us now as followers of Jesus. In considering this, let’s celebrate Christmas not in the way that conforms to the world but in view and remembrance of our Savior’s Holiness.
There are two things we can do as we celebrate this Christmas:
A. Remember and Praise the Savior – The song goes,
Fall on your knees; O hear the Angel voices!
Even angels praise the Lord and so let us dedicate a special time to thank God this Christmas season (1 Peter 1:18-19)
B. Love one another sincerely – The 3rd verse of the song continues, truly He taught us to love one another. May we not forget that this is a season to share the love with others. (1 Peter 1:22)
Reflection:
How can you grow in your holiness?
In what ways can you show your gratitude to God this Christmas?
Is there a disciple, family member, or friend whom you want to reach out this season? Make a plan and start praying for it.
Respond in Prayer:
Pray for your heart to remember your identity in Christ and for God to help you to be holy as you celebrate Christmas.
